Nathan never smoked cigarettes, but he worked in a smoky casino, and this permanently damaged his lungs. He slowly became too sick to dance at Pow-Wows, a part of his Oglala Sioux tradition. He said, “It’s like breathing through a straw. You can’t get enough air.” In this video, he explains how he copes when his body says “No.” Nathan spoke out as part of CDC’s _Tips From Former Smokers_ ® ( _Tips_ ® ) campaign. He died at 54 of illnesses caused by secondhand smoke exposure.
