After more than 45 years of marriage, Denise and Brian H. spent a lot of time together. Much of that time was spent in doctors’ offices and hospitals. Brian had heart disease, lung cancer, and COPD from smoking cigarettes for most of his life. Denise put her career on hold to be his full-time caregiver. Brian died in 2022 at age 68 after suffering from smoking-related health problems for more than 30 years.
